The Internet of Things (IoT): Public Data Breaches

Part 3: Public Data Breaches

Firewall. √ Unique passcode. √ Data back-up. √ You've done everything to protect your data, but what can you do when one of the companies you do business with gets hacked? Furthermore, how do you even know if hackers attacked a business connection or trusted vendor?

We recommend setting up a Google news alert (ask us how) for each company you do business with and/or maintain online accounts with. If there is a security breach at a financial institution, merchant, vendor or even a social media company, find out what information the hackers accessed and change your password immediately.

You may also subscribe to companies such as LifeLock to proactively alert you when your data is compromised and how to take appropriate measures.
